Coronet Loop Trail

Coronet Loop is an epic 50km backcountry singletrack trail that showcases spectacular landscapes and gold mining ruins.

You can begin this trail from the Bush Creek Trail and it is well formed, marked, with multiple river crossings. Highlights include Coronet Face Water Race which travels along the water race used in the goldrush era to sluice the Shotover faces at Arthurs Point, and the aptly named Picnic Rock for views and a picnic break.

Note: there are several sections which are Grade 4 and steep or narrow. One includes Pack, Track and Sack – the bypass is Skippers Pack Track, or going along Skippers Road before joining the climb to the Greengate Saddle. The other is miners trail near Macetown Road – the bypass is following Macetown Road and doing additional river crossings, or walking the miners trail. Cellphone coverage is also non-existent in the backcountry, so travel prepared and tell others about your plans.
